The game started of quite slow for the first 20 minutes with England generally on the front foot. England kept Lithuania in their own half with Sterling making runs down the left trying to churn out a half-chance. Also at around 17th minute Defoe had the beating of the defence but then hit it right at the keeper. Then in the 21st minute Defoe solidified his return to the England lineup with a goal off a good run and cross from Sterling. The game was silent until on the stroke of half time the linesman decided to look at the grass for a minute leaving no attention to the well offside Lithuanian striker to run in and almost score if it wasn’t for Keane’s spectacular block. Going into the second half there were no changes but about 5 minutes in Southgate substituted Defoe for Vardy and Sterling for Rashford. And at the 61st minute Vardy slotted it in to make it 2-0.
